    @Kapitananime I smell a bit of jealousy here lol. Too bad that SpaceX has created a launch vehicle to LEO 100x cheaper than any other, with a gas generator engine that is more efficient than other gas generator (US or Russian or any other) ever made. Not only that, they secured a billion dollar NASA cots contract….. In other words, you fail

    @jpourkav BETTER ROCKET HA HA HA HA Stop Stop.. I’m dieing. OH God that is so funny! I have never worked at Lockheed But I did do some work at NASA in the P.R. filed at JPL. This so called better rocket has yet to fly and the rest of the private launch services have no space craft that is designed to fly humans in space. They won’t have them in 6 or even 10 years. Oduma knows that. He is counting on the Private Sector in dragging down NASA for a decade or more.
    Oduma has no plan!

    The finest minds and experienced NASA professionals are not being shy about how seriously bad the Obama plan is.

    Gene Kranz: President’s space path ‘dangerous’
    “My concern is this might possibly be the epitaph for the manned space program for the next decade,” Kranz said

    @Kapitananime Um, I asked you to find me another gas generator LRE with a specific impulse higher than 300. I’m trying to have a civil discussion with you to reach a consensus here. I’m not kidding when I say that the Merlin is the most efficient gas generator LRE ever built, its already flown on MULTIPLE occasions with the falcon 1, watch?v=WTFlFFrfEB0 and the Falcon 9 is scheduled for launch on the 11th. btw why are you even bring Obama into this??Hes got no clue about the space indust.

    @Kapitananime Take an economics course. There is ALWAYS a market for any product/service. While the current market for space tourism is very verrrry small, it still exists. Since 2001, there have been 8 space tourists to the international space station via the company Space Adventures (at a price of several million$)Once the cost/price goes down, the market will expand. You can see this happening right now with Virgin Galactic, as there are already 300 people signed up for space flights.

    @Kapitananime Sorry,ran out of characters in my last post….. but yea, this isn’t about supporting “Obamas awesome space policy”, this is about supporting human expansion into space. I’ve been a big fan of SpaceX since before Obama knew of its existence. It is essential for private industry to get in the launch vehicle business to bring down cost and get rid of all the paper pushing that a gov agency requires. As for private manned craft, see SpaceX Dragon,OSC ‘s Cygnus,or Bigelow’s Genesis

    The Space Shuttle should keep flying until there is a replacement ! Like Ares 1 and Ares V !!

    giving it to the market means more players your only gaining not losing, nasa sucked either ways, suck on everyone and get over it we just might get to go to space after all thanks to the private sector. the amount of stupidity and ignorance about economics of the people here is mind boggling.

  12. RagingGeneral

    oh yeah maybe we can now regulate the private sector less you dont wanna regulate too much and get in the way of their development, and of course then we can finally prove all you people wrong who wants to stick with nasa which is just basically a space program that is going nowhere, i can not for the life of me understand how people actually like the status quo when we all know its not going anywhere. oh yeah also maybe you can ask the presidents to stop changing the program every 4 years lol.

    @Kapitananime Who are you?!! an engineer who lost their lockheed job because of SpaceX’s better rocket? The merlin has a Isp of 300, I dare you to go find me another gas generator liquid rocket engine with a higher Isp at sea level…… Hint: you wont find one.
    You’re right about falcon having its fair share of problems, but what rocket HASN’T had their fair share of problems. SpaceX is doing very well for how high the bar is set for them, and theyre doin it WAY cheaper too.

    @jpourkav
    BULL! There is NO market for civilian space travel. I have been fallowing private space companies for 25 years and they are all TALK. I don’t know what cloudy crystal ball you are looking into but there is no MAGIC private space company that can do a better job than NASA at less cost. Space science is expensive and there is no such thing as a PIPER CUB Space shuttle.

    @Kapitananime

    Strongly Agreed.

    Obama plan is a fatal plan.
    When even Armstrong is coming out of his shell to oppose it, you know it’s in trouble. Congress will not sign off on it.

    @CessnaDriver2 oh well, he wont be in office when it fails so it wont effect his vote count when it does, gotta feel sorry for Nasa =/

    @Kapitananime Also, since NASA is still a government agency it will NEVER be able to do things as efficiently or cost effectively as a private company. Why do you think most of NASA production is contracted out to companies like ATK and Lockheed? There is too much paper pushing in a gov. agency to operate efficiently, ESPECIALLY with NASA. Whether you like it or not, private companies are already getting to orbit far cheaper than NASA. These aint no PIPER CUB rockets either….

    @Kapitananime
    You know it would have cost about $1.5 billion for EACH launch of the ARES V right? That EACH shuttle launch costs about $1 billion now? That 50% increase would come only after tens of billions R&D spent to do what you lament Space-X can only do for “a billion or more”. Also keep in mind that NASA’s best case scenario probably wouldn’t have seen them lofting humans until some time after 2016. Let Space-X free up some of NASA’s budget so they can do that “research and exploration”.

    #1275349
  22. Kapitananime

    @jpourkav No. You just SMELL! ^___^ Space X has not created anything of the sort. It has yet to fly and YEARS before it can carry human passengers. I don’t know why you think Space X is super human, they have never put a human in space before and their only success was their Falcon 1 after many failed launches. Just what are U smoking and how do I fail? Obama had the Constellation going and could have funded it to its logical level. SpaceX has done WHAT? Taken a contract away from Lockheed.

    #1275350
  23. Kapitananime

    @JCRJohnson NASA was not designed to be anything but a research and exploration government agency. Like NACA before it, that agency was not ever trying to be work for profit. However the ESA in Europe is run for profit and is still subsidized by the many governments in Europe. Many U.S.companies offer commercial launch services now 4 PROFIT. But manned space flight is not CARGO. It does NOT exist now and not for any time in this decade unless Oduma just gives them a Billion or more dollars.

    #1275351
  24. JCRJohnson

    @Kapitananime
    Unusual that the one opposing Obama’s policy is the one championing socialism. Seriously, the NASA you are defending hasn’t existed for about forty years. NASA could get us to Mars for $250 billion while a private Mars mission would cost $25 billion. Guess what, neither one of those is going to happen. What might happen is business lowering the cost for moving mass around the solar system so maybe NASA could have an actual Mars mission for under $100 billion. THAT might happen.

  25. Kapitananime

    @jpourkav I don’t give a crap about this MAGIC rocket that has NEVER flown. It is wrong to hand over the Manned Space program to a bunch of Space Cowboys that have never put a human into space. The rocket is all TALK and no GO. Most of the Falcons have FAILED. The Falcon 1 achieved orbit on its fourth attempt, on 28 September 2008, with a mass simulator as a payload. BIG DEAL!
    Oduma does know who Space X is, he has met with Space X founder Elon Musk at his talk at the cape on April 15th.
