He is then reported to have sworn. He was arrested for this – that’s right, arrested for swearing. He was then taken the police station where he was thrown in a filthy cell and, according to other inmates, police officers beat him to death. He was then bundled into a body-bag and dragged out of the building. For the six days that he was at the pleasure of the Dubai police, before they killed him, they refused to give him enough food and water and would not let him see a lawyer – it is alleged. His sister heard about the incident when she received a call from an inmate who had found her phone number on a photocopy of her brother’s passport left behind in the cell – you know, after they had thrown him in a sack and dumped him outside of the police station – it is alleged! Lee’s sister contacted the British Embassy in Dubai and an official went to see Lee at the police station, but he was turned away by an officer who told him that Mr Brown did not want to see him – well, I guess it was more “couldn’t” than “wouldn’t” see the embassy official since Lee was probably already cold in a body-bag by then. Brown was accused of assaulting a hotel cleaner, pulling her hair and trying to throw her from a sixth-floor balcony over the lobby. He started shouting at her, she said, then grabbed her by the neck and dragged her by the hair. When he then tried to throw her over the balcony, colleagues heard her screams and came to the rescue.
