BlackBerry mogul Jim Balsillie has touted its large personal fortune love of hockey and Canada as well as paintings Phoenix city is grappling with the economy, which could not quite sports, in documents filed in the National Hockey League seeking to acquire Phoenix Coyotes on bankruptcy and travel group in Hamilton, Ontario.

In his application to buy coyotes, Balsillie league have given assurances that he would have no problem with the next $ 212.5 million he proposed for the team. The use of private capital Balsillie said more than $ 3 billion ($ 2.78 billion).

The request is forwarded to the league has also filed with the Bankruptcy Court in Phoenix. In coyotes filed for Chapter 11 protection on May 5. In a hearing to determine if the team can move is scheduled for June 9

The translation application described Hamilton as a place where an NHL team on the rise, saying that 66% of Hamilton residents strongly support the introduction of the NHL franchise to the city.

Meanwhile, the use of coyotes documents the failure to capture the hearts (and dollars) of the Arizona sports fans.

The application cited the survey said that only 20% of residents of the Phoenix area to follow the NHL on a regular basis, while 53% of respondents stated that they comply with the National Football League and 45 % said they were fans of Major League Baseball.

This lack of interest led to a rare hockey attendance. Last season, the Coyotes took 28 to 30 NHL teams in attendance. And while the average paid attendance last season was 14,866, about 4,000 of those ticket holders are often not appear in the game, the team missed the parking, food and income from advertising products.

The group has been profitable ever since he moved to the Valley of the Sun with Chile in Winnipeg in 1996.

Balsillie statement also asked if the Phoenix area can support financially the coyotes, in addition to three other professional groups and the University of Arizona athletics.

Phoenix 9 has a high rate of exclusion in the country and the unemployment rate of 7.7% in April. Balsillie said the figures show that the region does not have the economic muscle to support his least favorite sports team.

Jim Balsillie, however, not to mention that Hamilton unemployment rate rose to 8.8% in March, as the city struggles with the contracts for steel and manufacturing industries.
