Didn’t you folks see the watchtowers? The good guys were trying to wipe out the bad guys before trying to rescue the POWs.
After the cease fire, 1973, over 500 POWs were released, mostly flyboys. At that time we still had over 2,000 MIAs. Marine Robert Garwood, the last POW/MIA to emerge from Vietnam, was deemed a traitor.
As of today, we still have over 1,700 guys unaccounted for. Some of the remains that have been recovered can not be identified.
Read history books for better information.
