Alley and Rohrabacher: Brain vs Blowhard
Support Climate Denial Crock of the Week at www.climatecrocks.com Dana Rohrbacher is angling to be chairman of the Science and Technology committee. Richard Alley is the highly regarded expert on paleo-climate from Penn State. On November 17, Alley gave testimony before the committee. Watch Rohrbacher try to beat brains with bluster – I think Alley is wayyy to good humored and patient with him. There are scientists in Congress. Why not have one of those guys ask the questions.
You can just see this guy is used to responding to idiots, possibly in class.
“With uncertainties, if you sorta go to the far fringe, it just might be about where you are.” Love this guy; would vote for him.
I like that pollution is not a factor in this discussion. Why should we clean up after ourselves. Pollution is actually good for plants. There is no such thing as excess.
@oceanoceanoceanocean
“trees cause pollution” –
Ronald Reagan
“Your brightness is the sun” Haha, Rohrabacher didn’t get the hint
I feel so sorry for Dr. Alley, having to put up with these morons.
Alley is usually so articulate and concise in other interviews. Yet here he is placed up against a wall, is constantly cut off, and not allowed to describe anything in necessary detail. The science is complex, and subtle. Yet here he is barely given room to speak.
These political morons have an cookie-cutter argument agenda, and they are being forceful with their ignorant arguments. Mars…? Really…. It’s all bullshit.
God, how I love this vid. It’s the whole climate debate in a nutshell. Professor Alley’s responses are just perfect.
1 dislike here. Lee Doren must have watched this.
@MsZeitgeist85
speaking of blowhards.
@greenman3610 Reagan, the great prevaricator.
One thing that worries me is that Dr. Richard Alley is a bit awkward and lacking in charisma. Since the average person tends to listen to the best speaker rather than the person who is the best-educated, I’m afraid this might hurt his arguments.
Rohrabacher is more dangerous than Palin (idiot) and Bachmann(demented ill-informed half-wit).
@Saintbirinus I agree .
@greenman3610 Cuz no one will vote for them ?
@greenman3610 Now that would be quite a circus act. But in seriousness, deeply disturbing.
@widebody123
I’m rooting for Palin/Bachmann 2012
Sometimes I wish Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson was a Geoscientist. I really like Dr. Alley, but I think Dr. Tyson would get the point across better for those less aquatinted with science.
@TheMalcore
that’s correct.
@WAKeele
de Grassi has done some good work on this. google his vid on NOVA about mass extinctions.
@WAKeele
many people really like Alley’s geeky Mr Wizard appeal. He’s got a new series on PBS called “Operating Manual for Planet Earth”
@greenman3610 True, but I was just saying it would be nice to have a scientist like Tyson fighting the climate debates. Any scientist that gets invited to all the late night talk/comedy shows multiple times is the kind we need for the climate debates in the U.S. Someone that connects with non-science people and can explain things in very simple terms effectively.
@greenman3610 Thanks for pointing that series out–it’s good stuff!
Although I think some people really like that kind of host–like truly curious and educated people–most aren’t so likely to be drawn in unless someone speaks like a Trump or a Obama say. Maybe you’ve been lucky and spent a lot of time around people that love to learn, but I grew up in the South [in the U.S.] and spent time in the active duty military, so I’ve seen A LOT of the contrary–sadly.
Dana Rohrbacher = rude, arrogant, ignorant prick
@WAKeele
my condolences. there are actually a lot of smart people in the military, but, like any large organization, in some cases independent thinking is not as valued as it perhaps could be.
